Medicare
has a new online information service that lists quality of care information for
the 246 Medicare/Medicaid certified nursing homes in Maryland.
To view the information, go to
www.medicare.gov
and click on Nursing Home Compare. While
you are there, order their Guide to Choosing a Nursing Home.
If you don’t have access to the web, you can call
1-800-Medicare (633-42270)
to order the guide or ask questions about nursing homes.
“To
really see the quality of a nursing home, you have to visit.
But, the online information gives you a place to start, and gives you
some factual data that can help narrow your search,” said Catherine West,
Director of Quality Improvement, Delmarva Foundation.
The Delmarva Foundation works with Medicare to improve the quality of
care in Maryland hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies and physician
offices.
